COALITION MEMBER GROUPS

Environmentalists of Color Collective

The Environmentalists of Color Collective aims to welcome and build community among students of color who share an interest in the Earth, the outdoors, and environmental issues. By centering and celebrating the voices of environmentalists of color, we seek to challenge the historical and ongoing marginalization of people of color within environmental movements. We engage in this work primarily by providing an affinity space, organizing outdoor trips, promoting creative projects and events, and engaging in advocacy to reimagine contemporary environmentalism as a more inclusive effort for a safe and sustainable world.

Endowment Justice Coalition

The Yale Endowment Justice Coalition (EJC) is a non-hierarchal organization of students, faculty, alumni and New Haven community members committed to holding Yale accountable for its unethical investment practices.  We are part of a global movement of students and community organizers fighting against climate injustice and imperialism.

Founded in 2018, our original demands were: 1. Disclose all investments in Puerto Rican debt and instruct fund managers with investments in Puerto Rican debt to cancel that debt, and 2. Disclose and divest all holdings in fossil fuel companies. However, in 2020, Yale quietly sold off their holdings in Puerto Rican debt for a large profit, allowing the university to ignore their complicity in the Puerto Rican debt crisis.

Today, we demand that Yale immediately and fully divest from the fossil fuel industry. Our work will continue as Yale profits off of climate destruction, sovereign debt, and exploitative industries around the world, while hoarding the wealth of their endowment and imposing austerity on the New Haven community.

(The above is from EJC's official website.)

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION COLLABORATIVE

Established in April of 2019, the Environmental Education Collaborative (EECO) is Yale’s first student organization dedicated solely to promoting place-based environmental education in the wider New Haven community. EECO hopes to inspire a generation of environmentally-conscious individuals both within New Haven and at Yale. To accomplish this, EECO aims to build strong relationships with local schools and community organizations by developing place-based curriculum and implementing sustained environmental education projects.

GREEN

Established in August 2018, GREEN is Yale’s first sustainability action group that strives to implement GREENer practices on campus. We've worked with Yale Dining, the Office of Sustainability, all 14 residential colleges, and student groups to achieve a number of exciting changes on campus, from transforming butteries to become more sustainable spaces to piloting a dishware-sharing program that eliminates the ubiquity of single-use disposables.

Our exciting work has been covered numerous times by the Yale Daily News and won Yale's first-ever Chun Challenge for Change, in which dozens of student groups pitched ideas to make positive changes on campus. Join us, and you'll be involved in championing long-lasting change that will transform the face of sustainability on campus for many years to come.

If you'd like to join us or have any questions, please shoot us an email or Facebook message to find out more about how you can get involved.

YALE OUTDOORS

In the 1990s, the three registered outing clubs at Yale - Yale Mountaineering Club, Yale Outdoors, and Forestry Outing Club - served students of all levels and abilities. In the spring of 2009, Yale Outdoors was reorganized into an umbrella organization in an effort to consolidate outdoor life at Yale. Today, Yale Outdoors serves all members of the Yale community and beyond, engaging in outdoor service, leading expeditions, and offering skill sessions.
